How To Add Memory To LaptopA common problem for the laptop users is its low memory. The fact could be attributed to the small and compact size of the laptop. However, if you are curious about how to add memory to laptop, here is the answer. One need not be a laptop technician to do it. In fact, the truth is that adding memory to a laptop is easier and less time consuming than changing the memory of a desktop. Desktop has a big network of wires all across the C.P.U which makes it cumbersome and complicated for maneuvering. However, the laptop has no such problem. The only factor which decides whether a user can change or add more memory to the laptop is the existence of an access panel to the memory unit. If its not there then only a laptop technician can help you. The first step is to switch off the laptop and unplug the power cords. Next is to locate the battery panel and open it using a flat head screwdriver. Take out the battery and keep it along with the panel at a safe place. Now look for the memory unit's panel which is near the battery unit. If you are not able to locate it then take help of the instruction manual which helps you with the pictorial descriptions. Now, look for the panel and the screw which keeps it intact. Unscrew the panel and keep it at a safe place. Look for the memory chips and the vacant slots. Once you see a vacant slot then get the new memory chip that you have arranged and align the notches of it with that of the slot. Fix it and place it down slowly so that it gets fit in the cavity and screw back the slot. Just in case, there is no vacant slot and you know that one of the memory chip is low on memory then take it out. Taking out the memory chip is a delicate procedure though not very difficult. There are two ways of taking it out: If you see the memory chips on top of each other and there is a fixed groove in which they are set then slide out the chip with your hand or a screwdriver. Now, you can slide back the new memory chip. Keep the notches aligned. If you notice that there are movable slots which can be pulled diagonally up then pull the slot up at an angle of 45 degree and slide out the memory chip. Inserting the new chip is exact opposite of the extraction. Keep in mind the notches and their alignment. After your tryst with how to add memory to laptop, don't forget to screw back the panel and put back the battery. Once you are done, go to the BIOS and update the change. |
