Fitting Laptop Memory Is A Cakewalk

The most common problem of a laptop owner is fitting laptop memory correctly. This is a common curiosity because laptops, being small in shape, don't offer much space for large memory as the desktops do. And, the standard laptop configuration doesn't offer large memory space either. So, to counter this problem one has to add a new memory or upgrade the existing one. The additional memory besides offering more space to store on also increases the speed of the computer relatively.

For adding or fitting more memory chips to the laptop one has to make sure that the laptop has the memory access panel otherwise only a technician can do it. For locating you can take help of the instruction manual which comes with illustrative description.

Once you find out that your laptop has an access panel, switch it off and unplug the power cords. Also, don't forget to remove the battery. For this, you will have to dislodge the battery panel by sliding or clicking the button. Once the panel is off, remove the battery using a flathead screwdriver. Using hand might prove to be wastage of time.

Now move to the memory panel and unscrew the panel to remove it. Keep the screws at a safe place to avoid losing them. Remove the memory panel slowly, if the need be, use the screwdriver. You will see the memory chip/s lodged in the slots. If the chip can be removed by sliding it out then do it. Otherwise, look for clamps and undo them.

After unclasping, pull the memory chip up and take it out slowly. Now, to put the new memory chip, make sure that you have aligned the notches or the electrodes of the memory chip with that of the slot. Slide it in slowly till its set and put down the chip in the cavity so that it fits well. Don't force any of the steps as you are working on one of the most delicate areas of your laptop.

After having done all of this, get the memory panel and screw it steadily with the screwdriver. Put the battery back as you had taken it out and screw the panel as well. Now, plug in and switch on the laptop and get inside the BIOS to update the insertion of a new memory chip to make it compatible. Once you have done all this, you are ready to use the new memory.

These are the steps involved in fitting laptop memory. This must be kept in mind that this is just the hardware part. To make the new memory chip compatible one has to update the changes in the BIOS as well.
