Choose An External Memory For Laptop

Low memory is quite an issue with most of the laptop users now-a-days. As the work increases, so does the requirement for more and more space. To counter this problem, there are many solutions but the most precise one is the external memory for laptop.

External memory means any form of memory which is not present in the laptop but helps in increasing the memory space. There are many kinds of external memory sources like:

Portable Hard drive Flash memory Compact Disk C.D Floppy

The common characteristic of all these external memory types is that they are portable.

A hard drive can offer you a large amount of saving space and hence is the best solution if you are looking for a big storage space. Its USB connectible so its simple plug in- plug out feature makes it the favorite choice for the memory hunters. All you need to do is to plug it in through a USB port and save your data on it. After having done, remove it by clicking the USB icon on the task bar and selecting remove external hardware. This step is applied for the flash memory as well.

A flash memory offers a smaller space comparatively and is also a U.S.B connectible memory which functions exactly like the hard drive. Its also known as the pen drive as its small and easy to carry. They offer different memory space like 512MB to 4GB. Its handy for those who don't have much information to download. Its most common with students or with people with less space requirements.

A compact disk or the CD (as we all call it) is a writable memory device with lesser memory space than the above two. The CD is not preferred more than flash memory or the hard drive as the laptop must have a CD burner or the CD writer. If the burner is not present, using a CD to save information is impossible.

However, CD is most handy for multimedia data as it can be used even in VCD/DVD players. It stores any format of information and not just multimedia. To increase the space for storage on the CD, many software companies are working on and have introduced BLUE DISK technology.

The floppy disk is the outdated kind of external memory, which has become absolutely obsolete because of its small storage space. It offers the least memory space of all the external memory. Because of the less space on offer, even the laptop manufacturers have decided on not giving the floppy drive as a standard fitting.

Advent in technology has made floppy an antique in itself and days are not far when it would be on display in a Technological museum near your house.

So, one can say that the most commonly used external memory for laptop are the flash drives and the hard drives. Ultimately its you who has to make the final choice.
