How To Change Laptop Memory

Laptops are smaller in size and mobile. Latest technology is day by day making them faster. However, there is one area where they lag behind and that is their memory. Low memory often makes them very slow. So, to increase the performance, one should change laptop memory to a larger one. This helps in increasing their performance.

Laptops are delicate computers so one thing should be borne in mind that any kind of physical work should be done with care and knowledge. Same applies to the process of changing laptop's memory. The process is simple but delicate.

Important note: A laptop's memory can be changed only when there is access to the memory panel. The memory panel is located at the base of the laptop. If not then only the laptop technician can change the memory.

Here is a step by step guide on how to change the RAM of the laptop.

Step 1: Switch off your laptop before changing the memory and also take out the power cords for safety reasons. This should always be done when new hardware are being updated on the motherboard.

Step 2: Locate the memory panel, which is at the base of the laptop, under the keyboard. You can also take help of instruction manual for locating the panel. Instruction manuals most of the time are illustrative and very comprehensive.

Step 3: Unscrew the panel and keep the screw at a safe place so that you don't lose it. Pull out the panel once unscrewed and keep it at a safe place.

Step 4: Once you see the memory module, unclasp it and pull the module at an angle of 45 degree. Now pull it out.

Step 5: Get your new RAM and align the notch of the RAM with that of the slot and insert it.

Step 6: Put down the RAM in the cavity. Don't try to force the RAM in the groove, just push it down slowly and it automatically sets in the cavity.

Step 7: Clamp back the memory module(RAM), get the panel and the screw to bolt it back.

This is the process to be followed to change laptop memory. Now, put the power cord back and switch on your laptop. As you have added a new hardware, in this case a new RAM, you will have to go to the laptops BIOS to update the change and make your new memory ready to use and compatible with your laptop.
